The theme for this year “Your Life, Your Community: No place for Drugs” is a challenge for all Zambians and youths who are the majority. This year’s observance was held at the Lusaka National Museum, in Lusaka, Zambia.
In attendance was the Minister of Home Affairs Ronnie Shikapwasha, Acting Drug Enforcement Commissioner Peter Chingaipe, UN Representatives, church representatives, various primary and high schools.
The Acting DEC Commissioner, Mr. Chingaipe, said the commission had embanked on a number of programmes aimed at sensitizing the public on the dangers of drugs. He said the programmes will be rolled out into the various chiefdom around the country to sensitize the people on the dangers of cultivating and production of illicit drugs.
Delivering his speech the Minister of Home Affairs stated that government was committed to the fight against illicit drugs and money laundering to safe guard the social and economic security of the country, the UN Secretary Generals' speech was read on his behalf by National Information Officer, Mr. Mickie Mumba, and emphasized on each member in society to shoulder the responsibility to prevent and reduce the damage that drugs do, and thereby build a healthier and safer world.
